New Delhi: Dr. Ramneek Mahajan and his team at Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, New Delhi, have successfully performed India’s first Total Hip Replacement (THR) surgery using the INSIGNIA STEM implant. This procedure, which was carried out on two elderly patients with complex medical histories, marks a significant step forward in orthopaedic surgery.

The first patient, a 73-year-old man, presented with a fractured right hip along with a history of Parkinson’s disease and psychosis, which required a tailored treatment plan to address his unique needs.

The second patient, a 69-year-old woman, had been experiencing severe pain and restricted mobility for several months due to avascular necrosis, a condition that leads to the death of bone tissue from lack of blood supply.

Both patients were carefully assessed by the medical team, and the decision was made to perform the Total Hip Replacement surgery using the advanced INSIGNIA STEM implant, designed specifically to meet the needs of patients with complex health conditions.

INSIGNIA STEM offers several advantages over traditional implants. Its superior customization, enhanced fixation, and long-term durability ensured greater precision during the procedures, ultimately leading to quicker recovery times and improved functional outcomes.

The surgeries were performed with meticulous care, taking into account the patients' pre-existing conditions, which further highlighted the implant's ability to address the challenges of elderly patients.

Dr. Ramneek Mahajan, Senior Director of Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement at Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, who led the surgeries, expressed his excitement about the successful implementation of this advanced technology.

He stated, “Life is mobility, and mobility is life. We are thrilled to announce the launch of the INSIGNIA STEM for hip replacement in India at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket. This innovative technology offers key benefits such as a customizable fit, enhanced fixation, and long-term durability. For patients, this translates to improved functional outcomes, faster recovery, and a potentially lower risk of complications in the long run.”

Both patients were discharged with stable vitals, healthy suture lines, and the ability to move without pain. The surgeries not only resulted in improved mobility but also highlighted the importance of using advanced technologies in achieving better patient outcomes.
