Imphal: Manipur reported a total of 243 active Covid-19 cases on Sunday, even as the state’s positivity rate declined by 6.5 per cent over the past four days, a senior health official said.

According to the Manipur Health and Family Welfare Department, 13 out of 50 samples tested on Sunday returned positive, resulting in a positivity rate of 26 per cent. This is a drop from 32.5 per cent recorded on June 26.

Of the total 243 positive cases, 166 were reported from Imphal West, 54 from Imphal East, ten from Thoubal, nine from Bishnupur, two from Tengnoupal, and one each from Kakching and Chandel. Except for Tengnoupal and Chandel, the rest of the districts are located in the Imphal Valley region.

At present, 89 Covid-positive individuals are in home isolation.

Health Services Director Chambo Gonmei said the first case in the current wave was detected on June 9, when a 23-year-old woman from Bishnupur district tested positive. He urged the public to stay alert in light of rising cases in other parts of the country.

A Covid-19 preparedness review meeting was held at the Raj Bhavan, chaired by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla. During the meeting, the Governor emphasised the importance of proactive measures, adequate medical infrastructure, and public awareness to effectively manage any possible surge.

Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, senior health officials, and other authorities attended the meeting, which followed recent advisories from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on enhanced state-level preparedness.

A Raj Bhavan official said health authorities briefed the Governor on current preparedness, including availability of diagnostics, protective equipment, oxygen, ICU and isolation facilities, essential medicines, and status of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme and Health Information Platform.
