Kolkata: In a remarkable medical achievement, 37-year-old Lallianpuii from Aizawl, Mizoram, became a mother twice naturally after surviving two kidney transplants.

Both high risk pregnancies were successfully managed by Dr Rohit Rungta, Senior Consultant, Nephrology, and Dr Shilpita Banerjee, Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, at Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass.

Diagnosed with chronic kidney disease over a decade ago, Lallianpuii underwent her first kidney transplant in 2012 and a second in 2020 after graft rejection.

Despite being on lifelong immunosuppressive therapy, she conceived naturally in 2023 and again in 2025, both resulting in healthy deliveries.

Her first pregnancy in 2023 led to the birth of a baby girl, while her second, in 2025, resulted in a healthy boy weighing 3.2 kg, delivered via cesarean section at 36+6 weeks. Both pregnancies were free from major complications, with stable kidney function throughout.

Dr Rohit Rungta said, “Pregnancy after a kidney transplant is rare and challenging. Lallianpuii’s case is exceptional—two natural conceptions after two transplants, both with successful outcomes.”

Dr Shilpita Banerjee added, “Managing consecutive pregnancies in a renal transplant patient requires precise coordination to protect both mother and child. Her courage and cooperation were vital to this success.”

Expressing her gratitude, Lallianpuii said, “After battling kidney failure, I never thought motherhood was possible. Thanks to my doctors’ care and support, I’m now blessed with two beautiful children.”

Her journey stands as a powerful example of hope, resilience, and medical excellence, inspiring women with chronic illnesses to believe that miracles are possible.
