Bengaluru: A 42-year-old Assamese woman, suffering from a rare case of Leptospira Endometriosis, was successfully treated at Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru. A team of doctors, led by Dr. Manisha Singh, Senior Consultant – Gynaecology & Reproductive Medicine, performed a laparoscopic surgery, ensuring a swift recovery for the patient, who was discharged just two days after the procedure.

The patient, Ketki (name changed), had been experiencing prolonged fever, breathing difficulties, anemia, abdominal pain, and urinary issues for over a month. Despite multiple hospital visits, her condition persisted.

Further evaluation at Fortis Hospital revealed a 14 cm cyst filled with pus and an ovarian mass, both linked to an underlying Leptospira infection—a bacterial disease transmitted through contaminated water, soil, or animal urine.

Given the severity of the infection, Dr. Manisha Singh recommended laparoscopic surgery to remove the affected tissues and prevent further complications. Speaking about the case, Dr. Manisha Singh said:

"The patient presented to us in a deteriorating health condition. She had pre-existing endometriosis, which had developed into an abscess after contracting the Leptospira infection. Given the gravity of the situation, we opted for laparoscopic surgery as it was the most effective way to remove the infected tissues. Laparoscopy, being minimally invasive, allowed us to remove the infected fallopian tubes and ovaries, preventing further complications while minimizing recovery time and scarring. The surgery lasted approximately for one hour, and we successfully removed the infected areas, including the cyst and mass.”

The case highlights Fortis Hospital's expertise in handling complex and rare medical conditions. Mr. Akshay Oleti, Business Head, Fortis Hospitals Bengaluru, emphasized the hospital’s dedication to advanced healthcare, stating:

"At Fortis Hospital, we are committed to providing advanced and personalized care to our patients. This surgery not only highlights the importance of tailored treatment approaches but also reinforces our dedication to using the latest technologies to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients."
