New Delhi: Major Rohit Bachwala, an Army doctor, has been awarded the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card for helping a woman deliver her baby at Jhansi railway station under difficult conditions. The commendation recognizes his professionalism, courage, and quick thinking in a public place with limited medical resources.

According to the Army's public information wing, Major Bachwala was on his way home to Hyderabad from Military Hospital, Jhansi, on July 5 when he noticed a woman in distress near the lift area of the railway station. The woman had fallen from a wheelchair and was in advanced labor.

With no access to a proper medical setup, Major Bachwala stepped in immediately. Using only a towel, a knife, and hair clips, he helped deliver the baby on the platform. The newborn was not breathing initially, but he was able to resuscitate the infant. Later, the mother experienced complications related to the delivery of the placenta, which he also managed using his clinical judgment and available protective measures.

Thanks to his efforts, both the mother and baby were stabilized and later shifted to a government hospital for further care.

The Army commended Major Bachwala for acting swiftly and calmly in a challenging situation, highlighting his exceptional medical skills and unwavering sense of duty. His response reflected the values of the Indian Armed Forces, especially the willingness to serve even outside formal duty hours.

General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff, personally commended Major Bachwala for his service. The Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, also recognized his efforts during a ceremony in Delhi. She was joined by senior gynecologists of the Armed Forces—Surgeon Vice Admiral Anupam Kapur and Lieutenant General Bhupesh K. Goyal.

This recognition reflects the dedication and readiness of military medical professionals to step in whenever and wherever needed, even in the most unexpected situations.
