Patna: Bihar has reported over 2,600 dengue cases this year, with a notable surge since July, according to inputs from IANS. Patna remains the worst-hit district, recording 1,331 cases, including 50 in just the last 24 hours. Other affected districts include Muzaffarpur, Aurangabad, Sitamarhi, Bhagalpur, Munger, Saran, Vaishali, and Samastipur.
Dr. Subhash Chandra Prasad, District Infectious Disease Controller, noted that the rising dengue cases in Patna present a serious public health challenge. Several areas in the district, such as Azimabad, Kankarbagh, Patliputra, Bankipur, and others, have seen a steady influx of patients. To manage the situation, extra dengue wards have been set up in key hospitals, including IGIMS, PMCH, NMCH, and Patna AIIMS, among others.
“We have urged people to stay vigilant against dengue, which shows symptoms like high fever, headaches, eye and joint pain, and red spots on the body. Severe cases can lead to nosebleeds or vomiting blood. A district-wide awareness campaign has been launched, advising those with symptoms to consult doctors," Prasad said.
Dr. Bijay Singh, a general physician, warned that self-medication can worsen the disease and stressed the importance of blood tests and maintaining platelet counts. He highlighted that platelet levels below 25,000 increase the risk of internal bleeding.
Meanwhile, IGIMS Superintendent Dr. Manish Mandal shared that sero analysis revealed three dengue strains—DEN V1, DEN V2, and DEN V3—after testing 50 patients, as per IANS. Although these strains are not particularly dangerous, he emphasized the importance of timely medical consultation. IGIMS has allocated 40 beds for dengue patients in anticipation of more cases.
