New Delhi: Two daughters from Ghaziabad have given a new lease of life to three critically ill patients. Following the brain death of their 72-year-old mother, the family consented to donate her organs, demonstrating a remarkable empathy and courage. The organs—a liver and two kidneys—were retrieved at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Vaishali, and were successfully transplanted into the recipients. One kidney was transported to PSRI Hospital through a Green Corridor.

The liver was transplanted into a 51-year-old man suffering from chronic liver disease (CLD), while one kidney was given to a 43-year-old woman battling chronic kidney disease (CKD). The surgeries at Max Vaishali were led by the hospital’s expert transplant teams: Dr. Subhash Gupta and Dr. Rajesh Dey for the liver transplant, and Dr. Anant Kumar and Dr. Neeru P. Aggarwal for the kidney transplant. The second kidney was allocated to a patient at PSRI Hospital based on medical urgency.

The 72-year-old woman was rushed to Max Vaishali’s Emergency Department two days earlier in an unconscious state. Diagnosed with a massive brain haemorrhage and a poor prognosis, she was declared brain-dead after thorough evaluation by a team of specialists, including neurologists, intensivists, pulmonologists, and cardiologists. Recognizing the opportunity to save lives, the medical team approached the patient’s family about organ donation.

Understanding the life-changing impact their decision could have, her daughters consented to donate their mother’s organs, offering hope to patients on the transplant waiting list.

Dr. Subhash Gupta, Chairman, Liver Transplant and Biliary Sciences, Max Hospital Vaishali, remarked, “This family’s decision underscores the critical role organ donation plays in saving lives. Their compassion has turned a moment of grief into a beacon of hope.”

Dr. Anant Kumar, Chairman, Urology Renal Transplant and Robotics, added, "Organ donation not only saves lives but also leaves behind a legacy of kindness and humanity."

This act of organ donation address the critical need for organ transplants.
