Dr Raj Nagarkar Sets Indian Record with 2,000 Robotic-Assisted Cancer Surgeries
Nashik: Prof Dr Raj Nagarkar, Managing Director & Chief of Surgical Oncology and Robotic Services at HCG Manavata Cancer Centre (HCGMCC) has achieved yet another historic milestone by successfully completing 2000 robotic-assisted surgeries, crossing his previous milestone of 1500 surgeries achieved in early 2024.
The fastest known feat of its scale in robotic oncology, the achievement cements Dr Nagarkar’s position among the most accomplished robotic surgeons in India. The 2,000th surgery was successfully performed using the Versius Robotic System. The milestone marks a decade-long journey of dedication, innovation and precision.
Over the years, Dr Raj Nagarkar has performed complex robotic procedures in oncology, including surgeries for prostate, colorectal, lung, oesophageal and cervical cancers; as well as gastrointestinal, urological, thoracic, gynaecological and bariatric cases. Each surgery has reflected HCGMCC’s commitment to offering the most advanced, minimally invasive treatments to patients across India and beyond.
“Crossing the 2000 mark isn’t merely about numbers; it’s about transforming patient outcomes. Robotic-assisted surgery allows us to achieve surgical precision that was once unimaginable by minimizing pain, blood loss and recovery time while maximizing accuracy and quality of life for our patients.
Every milestone reaffirms our mission to make world- class cancer care accessible and affordable, right here in Nashik,” says Prof Dr Raj Nagarkar, Chief of Surgical Oncology & Robotic Services and Managing Director - KIMS Manavata Hospitals, HCG Manavata Cancer Centre and Six Sigma, Nashik.
With over 100,000 total surgeries performed to date and patients from over 15 countries, HCGMCC in Nashik continues to lead India’s charge toward technology-driven, patient- centric healthcare.
The hospital also has been at the forefront of adopting innovations including AI-powered early detection tools; development of a breakthrough blood test capable of detecting 30 types of cancers with 98.4 per cent accuracy; establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Cell and Gene Therapy, among others.
“We’ve demonstrated that you don’t need to be in a metro to access world-class surgical care. Our presence in Nashik has made advanced oncology accessible and affordable without compromise. Alongside, our vision has always been to bring cutting-edge global medical technologies to the heart of India.
From robotic-assisted precision surgeries to AI- based diagnostics and next-generation therapies, we are building an ecosystem where innovation meets compassion, ensuring that no patient is left behind,” concludes Dr Nagarkar.
