Navi Mumbai: In a compassionate and inspiring initiative, Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, celebrated World Prematurity Day with a special event titled “Tiny Miracles.” The celebration brought together doctors, nurses, parents, and their little ones to honor the strength and resilience of premature babies who continue to inspire hope through their extraordinary journeys.

The event, held at Blue Planet, Medicover Hospitals, featured heartwarming interactions between families and the medical team that cared for these infants during their early days. 50+ babies, along with their parents and the hospital staff (doctors, nurses), participated in the event. The celebration underscored the significance of advanced neonatal care and early intervention in achieving optimal outcomes for preterm babies.

"The Tiny Miracles” event created a platform for sharing stories, spreading awareness, and expressing gratitude to the healthcare teams dedicated to neonatal care. Expert pediatricians and neonatologists at Medicover Hospitals conducted awareness sessions on premature baby care, parental guidance, and the importance of regular follow-ups.

During the event, a short video montage “From NICU to Nursery” showcased Medicover’s NICU success stories, along with the symbolic e-launch of the upgraded Advanced NICU. Parents shared emotional journeys of their premature babies, with the babies present for photo opportunities. This was followed by Baby Certificate Distribution, which is “Tiny Victories”, where NICU graduates received certificates, and doctors and parents posed for a group photo. Through this celebration, the emphasis was on timely medical intervention and parental care, which can help these tiny fighters lead healthy, fulfilling lives.

Prematurity refers to babies born before 37 weeks of gestation. According to global statistics, one in every ten babies is born prematurely. While advances in medical care have improved survival rates, premature birth remains a significant health concern.

“Causes of premature birth can include multiple pregnancies, maternal infections, chronic conditions such as diabetes or hypertension, or sometimes, unknown factors. Complications associated with prematurity include breathing difficulties, feeding challenges, infections, vision or hearing problems, and long-term developmental concerns. Early detection, neonatal intensive care, and continued parental support are key to improving outcomes for these infants. Hence, this step taken by the Medicover Hospital by conducting a special event is critical in raising awareness,” said Dr Tanmesh Kumar Sahu, Consultant Neonatologist and NICU In Charge.

Adding to the sentiment, Neeraj Lal, Regional Director for the Maharashtra and Karnataka Region at Medicover Hospitals, said, “World Prematurity Day reminds us of the incredible resilience of these little ones and the vital role of medical care and family support. At Medicover, we are committed to offering world-class neonatal services."
