Mumbai Woman Undergoes Scarless Breast Cancer Surgery at Jaslok Hospital
Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai, has successfully performed an advanced Endoscopic Skin and Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy (E-NSM) followed by implant-based reconstruction using TiLoop mesh, offering a scar-minimised and patient-friendly approach to breast cancer surgery.
The procedure was performed on a 27-year-old unmarried woman and represents a major step forward in safe, minimally invasive breast cancer care.
When the patient arrived at Jaslok Hospital, doctors found a 4–5 cm lump in her left breast. Chemotherapy was initiated to shrink the tumour, and during treatment, genetic testing revealed a BRCA gene mutation, increasing her lifetime cancer risk.
Based on these findings, the medical team recommended an advanced surgical approach to ensure both safety and improved cosmetic outcomes.
Traditional mastectomies often require a 10–12 cm incision, which can leave visible scars and affect self-image. Considering the patient’s young age and personal concerns, Dr. Sandip M. Bipte, Oncoplastic and Robotic Breast Surgeon, proposed an endoscopic mastectomy with immediate reconstruction.
This approach uses a small 3–4 cm incision hidden along the chest wall, preserving nipple sensation and achieving a natural appearance while maintaining cancer clearance.
Dr. Bipte explained, “For young women facing breast cancer, the emotional impact of surgery can be as significant as the physical one. Our patient was deeply concerned about post-surgery scars and body image.
The endoscopic skin- and nipple-sparing technique allows us to remove the cancer effectively while maintaining aesthetic integrity. It helps patients regain confidence and feel complete again. This success was made possible by the dedication of our multidisciplinary team, including Dr. Sadashiv Choudhary, the nursing team, and Jaslok Hospital staff.”
The surgery was completed smoothly with minimal discomfort and rapid recovery. The patient was discharged within 24 hours of the operation.
Dr. Milind Khadke, Chief Medical Officer, said, “This successful procedure reflects Jaslok Hospital’s commitment to patient-focused innovation. Combining precision, safety, and aesthetics, such minimally invasive techniques are transforming the future of breast cancer care.”
Expressing her gratitude shared, “Choosing surgery was one of the toughest decisions of my life, but the care I received gave me strength and hope. Today, when I see myself in the mirror, I feel complete — not just healed.”
Through such advancements, Jaslok Hospital continues to redefine cancer treatment by combining medical excellence with compassion, ensuring that women receive care that heals both physically and emotionally.
