Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal hosted the Xi Experience Centre, a mobile robotic-assisted surgery sensitization platform by Intuitive, a global technology leader in minimally invasive care and the pioneer of robotic-assisted surgery.
The event was part of AIIMS Bhopal’s efforts to strengthen awareness and adoption of advanced minimally invasive surgical technologies in central India. The initiative aimed to engage healthcare professionals, medical students and the general public on the benefits, applications and growing relevance of robotic-assisted surgery in meeting the region’s evolving healthcare needs.
Speaking about the event, Prof Dr Madhabananda Kar, Executive Director, AIIMS Bhopal, said, "As a premier government medical institute, AIIMS Bhopal is committed to advancing surgical innovation and ensuring that people across Madhya Pradesh have access to high precision and minimally invasive care.
Platforms like the Xi Experience Centre give our clinicians and trainees first-hand exposure to robotic-assisted surgery and help bridge the gap between technology and clinical practice. This initiative strengthens our role in shaping the future of surgical care in government hospitals."
India is seeing steady expansion in robotic-assisted surgery, driven by improved patient outcomes, growing clinical interest and increasing patient awareness of minimally invasive treatment options.
With adoption rising across the country, including in regional hubs like Bhopal, robotic-assisted surgery is becoming central to soft tissue procedures in urology, gynecology, general surgery and oncology. For patients, decentralised access means they no longer need to travel to metro cities to receive advanced minimally invasive surgical care.
Highlighting the significance of this exposure for the medical community, Dr. Ketan Mehra, Associate Professor, Urology, AIIMS Bhopal, said, "Robotic-assisted surgery is transforming how a range of procedures are performed across specialties, particularly in government hospitals that manage diverse surgical needs and large patient volumes.
Hands-on exposure through the Xi Experience Centre helps our surgeons and trainees understand the platform’s capabilities more clearly and shortens the learning curve. This kind of engagement is essential for building confidence and preparing teams to integrate advanced surgical technologies into everyday clinical practice."
The Xi Experience Centre showcased key features of the da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery system, including 3D vision, wristed instruments and real time imaging that support accuracy in complex soft tissue procedures.
For Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities across Madhya Pradesh, such exposure plays an important role in building awareness, strengthening the regional robotic-assisted surgery ecosystem and preparing healthcare professionals for future adoption.
Through this event, AIIMS Bhopal reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening surgical innovation, supporting clinician training and ensuring that patients across Madhya Pradesh benefit from precise, minimally invasive treatment options enabled by robotic-assisted surgery.
