Wadia Hospital Celebrates World Prematurity Day with Special Events for Preemies
Mumbai: On the occasion of World Prematurity Day, Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children and Nowrosjee Wadia Maternity Hospital proudly celebrated the incredible strength of preterm warriors.
This special day brought together the NICU graduates and their families in a fun-filled, magical event that honoured their resilience, the compassion of the medical teams, and the remarkable journeys from tiny beginnings to thriving childhood. It was a beautiful reminder that with timely care, unwavering hope, and community support, these smallest fighters continue to inspire every day.
The Hospital hosted a vibrant celebration for over 50 premature babies and their families. Through dance performances, cake cutting, and interactive sessions, the hospital paid tribute to the bravery of these little fighters and the dedication of their parents, making the day truly special.
Premature babies tend to face complications such as respiratory distress, low immunity, feeding difficulties, and delayed development. Recognizing their struggles, Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital took the unique initiative of organizing a special event that not only celebrated their survival but also provided parents an opportunity to connect, share experiences, and engage in interactive sessions with the care team.
Activities like dancing, cake cutting, and felicitation of babies and the parents added a festive and joyous touch to the occasion, making it memorable for both children and families.
"At Wadia Hospitals, our commitment to newborn care is reflected in the nearly 5,000 neonates we treat every year, of whom almost 50% are admitted due to prematurity-related conditions. Preterm birth affects approximately 1 in 10 babies worldwide. Despite remarkable progress in neonatal care and improved survival rates, it is estimated that nearly 75% of preterm deaths could still be prevented using existing, evidence-based interventions—underscoring the urgent need for continued awareness, timely care, and strengthened healthcare systems," said Dr Vinay Joshi, Head Of Division, Neonatology.
Dr Minnie Bodhanwala, CEO of Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children, underscored, “Premature babies are true fighters, and they need specialized care, constant attention, and endless love to help them grow strong and healthy. Our mission is not only to provide advanced medical treatment but also to nurture these tiny warriors with compassion and hope.
Today’s celebration is a heartfelt tribute to their courage and a chance to share joyful, unforgettable moments with their parents. Seeing these little fighters thrive brings immense happiness and inspiration to all of us. Every effort we make is focused on supporting families and giving premature babies the very best start in life. We feel honored to be part of their remarkable journey and to witness their strength and determination every day.”
Through initiatives like this, Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital remains dedicated to delivering exceptional pediatric care, ensuring that premature babies receive not only advanced medical treatment but also compassionate support, giving them the best chance to grow into healthy, thriving, and joyful children.
