Ayushman Bharat and Mahatma Phule schemes deliver lifesaving care in Maharashtra

Amravati (Maharashtra): The Central government’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) and the Maharashtra government’s Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana are significantly improving access to healthcare for thousands of patients in Amravati.

Patients at the government-run Amravati Super Speciality Hospital are receiving free, high-quality medical treatment under these schemes. According to officials, treatments that would otherwise cost lakhs of rupees in private hospitals are being provided at no cost, offering major financial relief to patients and their families.

Hospital authorities said that this year alone, the facility has successfully carried out 44,000 free surgeries. These include 69 kidney transplants, over 15,000 dialysis treatments, more than 1,000 neurosurgeries, 5,000 chemotherapy sessions, and 8,000 kidney stone surgeries. All these procedures are being performed free of charge under the two healthcare programmes.

The hospital’s Dean, Dr. Amol Narote, along with his team, has been honoured by the Maharashtra government with the ‘Hridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray’ award for their dedicated service. Dr. Narote said that government health schemes have enabled the hospital to provide life-saving treatment to thousands of patients.

Patients and their families have expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the medical staff for making advanced treatment accessible. One family member shared that the kidney transplant performed at the hospital would have cost several lakhs in a private facility, making the support under the scheme invaluable.

The hospital has also received several awards for its quality services and patient care. With the launch of the new Ayushman Bharat portal, access to these schemes has become easier and more transparent for patients.

Today, Amravati Super Speciality Hospital stands as a strong example of how government healthcare initiatives can bring meaningful and life-changing support to people across the state.
