Delhi Government to Open 81 New Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to Strengthen Local Healthcare
Delhi to inaugurate 81 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, boosting local healthcare access.
The Delhi government is set to inaugurate 81 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs on Wednesday, marking the fifth phase of expansion under the programme. This development is expected to significantly improve access to primary healthcare services at the neighbourhood level across the capital.
Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the initiative will play a vital role in strengthening preventive and basic healthcare services, making quality medical care more accessible to residents. With the opening of these new centres, the total number of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Delhi will increase from 238 to 319.
The Health Minister highlighted that Delhi is steadily moving towards its long-term goal of establishing more than 1,100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the city. This roadmap aims to ensure that every community has easy access to essential healthcare services close to home, especially for early diagnosis and prevention of diseases.
“These centres are an important step in the government’s mission to provide free, accessible, and dignified primary healthcare to every household,” Singh said. He added that the initiative is being implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and aligns with the national vision of providing healthcare services to all citizens.
Each Ayushman Arogya Mandir will offer a wide range of free medical services. These include doctor consultations, essential medicines, and basic diagnostic tests. The centres will also conduct screenings for common health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and certain types of cancer. In addition, they will provide maternal and child healthcare services, immunisation support, growth monitoring for children, and mental health care.
Preventive healthcare will be a major focus at these centres. Residents will have access to lifestyle counselling, nutrition advice, yoga sessions, and wellness programmes aimed at promoting healthy living and preventing chronic diseases. According to the Health Minister, these neighbourhood-level facilities will help reduce the burden on major hospitals by addressing health issues early and providing timely care close to people’s homes. This will be particularly beneficial for women, senior citizens, and low-income families who often face difficulties in accessing healthcare due to long travel times and crowded hospitals.
Alongside the expansion of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, the Delhi government continues to strengthen health insurance coverage under the Ayushman Bharat schemes. As of January 13, 2026, a total of 6,91,530 Ayushman health cards have been issued in Delhi under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Vaya Vandana Yojana, including 2,65,895 cards issued specifically for senior citizens.
To ensure smooth access to advanced medical care, Delhi currently has 189 empanelled hospitals under these schemes. These include 138 private hospitals, 41 Delhi government hospitals, and 10 Central government hospitals. All empanelled hospitals provide cashless treatment, ensuring that financially vulnerable families can receive essential and life-saving medical care without worrying about costs.
