Update: 2026-01-29 11:15 GMT

New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, today facilitated the Meeting of Directors of all AIIMS institutions, during which a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to establish a Pan-India collaborative research consortium. The initiative marks an important step towards strengthening coordinated biomedical and clinical research aligned with national health priorities.

The Memorandum of Understanding, executed in New Delhi, provides a structured framework for collaboration among twenty All India Institute of Medical Sciences institutions across the country. The consortium will enable joint research projects, multi-institutional studies, clinical trials, exchange of researchers, and systematic sharing of knowledge and best practices.

The participating institutions include All India Institute of Medical Sciences located at New Delhi, Bathinda, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Bibinagar, Bilaspur, Deoghar, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kalyani, Madurai, Mangalagiri, Nagpur, Patna, Raebareli, Raipur, Rajkot, and Rishikesh.

The consortium is envisaged as a national research network that will leverage the combined clinical expertise, infrastructure, and patient base of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences system to address priority health challenges of national importance.

The meeting also included discussions on setting national research priorities, strengthening multi-centric clinical trials, and promoting research in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence in healthcare, affordable cancer therapies, healthcare-associated infections, and metabolic disorders.

The agreement provides for the nomination of nodal officers and single points of contact in each institution to facilitate effective coordination and implementation of collaborative activities. The Pan-India research consortium is expected to strengthen research capacity, accelerate translation of scientific findings into healthcare solutions, and contribute to evidence-based policy formulation in the country.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. M. Srinivas, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, stated: “The establishment of this collaborative research consortium reflects our collective commitment to advancing high-quality, nationally relevant research.

By bringing together the strengths of All India Institute of Medical Sciences institutions across India, we aim to generate robust scientific evidence, promote innovation, and support informed decision-making in healthcare.

This platform will continue to evolve as a key driver of collaborative research in the years ahead.” Prof. Nikhil Tandon, Dean (Research), All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, said “The PanIndia research consortium provides a structured mechanism to undertake large, multi-institutional studies that are essential for addressing complex health challenges.

By harmonising research protocols, sharing expertise, and leveraging the diverse patient populations across All India Institute of Medical Sciences institutions, this collaboration will strengthen research quality, improve reproducibility, and enable faster translation of evidence into clinical practice and public health policy.”

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and the formal launch of the Pan-India research consortium marked a key highlight of AIIMS Research Day 2026.

AIIMS Research Day 2026 (Jan 29-30, 2026) will provide a platform to showcase institutional research priorities, foster dialogue on emerging scientific challenges, and reaffirm the role of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences network in advancing evidence-based healthcare and policy in India.
