INDIA CONFRONTS MPOX: HEALTH MINISTRY TAKES PROACTIVE STEPS

The Indian government urges all States and UTs to raise public awareness on Mpox, its transmission, and symptoms. Communities must understand the importance of timely reporting and preventive measures to stop the spread.

The advisory calls for increased public awareness, immediate isolation of suspected cases, setting up isolation facilities, and ensuring proper testing at designated labs. Strengthening diagnostic capabilities and monitoring public health infrastructure are also critical steps.

Avoid panic and communicate preventive measures clearly. Promptly report suspected cases, avoid overcrowding in healthcare facilities, and don’t overlook mild cases—test and isolate them to prevent unnoticed transmission.

The Ministry assures that testing capabilities are robust with 36 ICMR-supported labs. States and UTs must ensure isolation facilities, logistics, and trained healthcare workers are ready for both suspected and confirmed Mpox cases.

Following the Health Ministry's guidelines on do’s and don’ts is essential to control Mpox. Public awareness, early isolation, testing, and prepared healthcare systems will curb the spread of the virus across India.
