MPOX FIRST CASE IN INDIA: KNOW ALL ABOUT MPOX

MPOX DETECTED IN INDIA: FIRST CASE REPORTED
India reports its first suspected case of Mpox on September 8, 2024. A male patient recently traveled from a country with Mpox transmission. Authorities urge calm.
WHAT IS MPOX?
Mpox is a viral infection that starts with flu-like symptoms: fever, headache, and muscle pains, leading to pus-filled skin lesions. It lasts 2-4 weeks.
HOW MPOX SPREADS?
Mpox primarily spreads through direct skin-to-skin contact, including during intimate activities like inter-course, kissing, and hugging. It can also spread through contaminated materials like clothing or bedding and from close contact with infected animals.
IS MPOX CONTAGIOUS?
Unlike Covid-19, Mpox doesn’t spread easily through the air. Physical contact is the primary transmission method. Infected individuals should isolate until they’re no longer infectious.
TREATMENT FOR MPOX
There’s no specific treatment for Mpox, but supportive care can help. Most people with intact immune systems recover without medical intervention.
MPOX VACCINES
WHO recommends vaccines like MVA-BN and ACAM2000 for protection against Mpox. Two doses offer the best protection, but vaccines aren't 100% effective.
PREVENTION AND CARE
Smallpox vaccines offer some protection against Mpox, with newer vaccines available. Preventative measures include avoiding contact with infected animals, isolating cases, practicing good hygiene, and healthcare workers using protective gear. Early detection is crucial to prevent severe cases.
