President Murmu Highlights Unani Innovations as Key to Global Acceptance

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu underscored the importance of innovation in Unani medicine to enhance its global acceptability. She made these remarks while inaugurating the International Conference organized by the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), under the Ministry of Ayush, on the occasion of Unani Day at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

Addressing the gathering, President Murmu highlighted that Unani medicine, deeply rooted in ancient traditions and refined over centuries, exemplifies the harmony between heritage and innovation. She stressed that continuous advancements are crucial to ensuring its relevance and effectiveness in modern healthcare.

Paying homage to Hakim Ajmal Khan, a renowned Unani physician, educationist, and freedom fighter, the President commended CCRUM for its contributions to human health and well-being through research and innovation. She lauded the theme of the conference, “Innovations in Unani Medicine for Integrative Health Solutions – A Way Forward”, as highly pertinent in the current healthcare landscape.

The President of India further said “The Government of India, through the Ministry of Ayush, has taken significant steps to support and promote Unani medicine. India has the widest network of educational, research, healthcare and pharmaceutical institutions of Unani Medicine. The Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine, with its network of 24 peripheral institutes, conducts high-quality research and plays a key role in the promotion and development of Unani Medicine”. 

Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) highlighted the need to modernize the Unani medicine through molecular biology, Artificial Intelligence, and advanced research to enhance its evidence-based credibility and global reach.

Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, said that there is a need for integrating traditional knowledge with modern science to redefine Unani medicine’s role in building a healthier, sustainable world.

Expressing optimism, the President stated that the conference would serve as a crucial platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaborative efforts to advance Unani medicine and integrate it into mainstream healthcare.
