Greater Noida: A 58-year-old woman underwent successful surgery at Sharda Care Healthcity, Greater Noida, to remove a massive 16.5 kg ovarian tumour. The patient was in critical condition when admitted, severely undernourished, underweight, and suffering from breathing difficulties and partial pneumonia due to the tumor’s size.

After thorough examination and diagnosis, doctors confirmed that the tumor had grown substantially due to delayed treatment. A team of specialists, led by Dr. Hemkant Verma, senior consultant and surgical oncologist, performed the high-risk surgery to remove the tumor.

Ovarian cancer remains one of the deadliest cancers for women, with a high mortality rate. In India, the mortality rate is 2.3 and 2.02 per 100,000 women. According to research, the risk of ovarian cancer increases after the age of 35 and peaks between the ages of 55 and 64.

Commenting on the case, Dr. Hemkant Verma emphasized, “Ovarian cancer is becoming an increasingly common and concerning health issue among women, especially due to its silent progression and late detection. In this patient's case, the tumour had grown massive due to a prolonged delay in treatment; therefore, it was extremely urgent and critical for us to remove the tumor. With the team's dedication and medical expertise, we were able to successfully remove the tumor. Hence, early diagnosis through routine checkups and timely intervention can significantly improve outcomes. Women should prioritize regular gynecological screenings, maintain a healthy diet, engage in physical activity, and not overlook persistent symptoms like bloating or abdominal discomfort.”

After the surgery, the patient shared her gratitude: I am thankful to the doctors and staff at Sharda Care Healthcity for giving me a second chance at life. Their expertise and care were truly remarkable.

Her family, who had sought treatment at several other hospitals before coming to Sharda Care Healthcity, also expressed their thanks:

“The care and compassion shown by the entire team were beyond anything we had experienced. We are deeply grateful to Sharda Care Healthcity for saving her life.”

Mr. Rishabh Gupta, Vice President of Sharda Care Healthcity, commented, “Such incidents highlight the importance of timely intervention and expert care.
