Update: 2026-03-05 10:15 GMT

National: CK Birla Hospital®, Delhi, has successfully completed 50 robot-assisted breast cancer surgeries, positioning itself as the first major centre in North India offering this advanced and specialized surgical approach.

Under the guidance of Dr. Mandeep Singh Malhotra, Director – Surgical Oncology, the hospital has developed and refined robotic breast cancer surgery techniques, reflecting both his clinical expertise and the hospital’s dedication to patient-focused, cutting-edge cancer care.

Robot-assisted breast surgery is among the most advanced techniques in breast cancer treatment today. By performing cancer removal through minimal, strategically placed incisions, the approach ensures oncological safety while preserving breast appearance. This leads to faster recovery, reduced physical and emotional stress, and improved cosmetic outcomes for patients.

Women across age groups—from their early thirties to mid-seventies—have benefited from this approach at CK Birla Hospital®, Delhi. Many have been able to resume normal routines sooner, experiencing less disruption to their daily lives compared to conventional surgical methods.

Dr. Malhotra said, “Completing 50 robot-assisted breast cancer surgeries demonstrates how surgical care for breast cancer can evolve. Our focus is not only on removing cancer but also on preserving patients’ confidence, dignity, and body image. Robotic surgery allows precise cancer clearance through minimal, discreet incisions, significantly reducing the emotional trauma often linked with breast surgery. Observing patients recover well and regain confidence motivates us to continue advancing surgical techniques.”

He added that patients eligible for nipple-sparing and skin-sparing breast surgeries have particularly benefited, as robotic assistance allows for highly precise cancer removal while maintaining a natural appearance, supporting emotional and psychological recovery.

Mr. Amit Sharma, Vice-President, CK Birla Hospital®, Delhi, commented, “This reflects our dedication to providing advanced, patient-centered breast cancer care in North India. We strive to combine clinical excellence with compassion while expanding access and encouraging wider adoption of these techniques among surgeons.”

Looking ahead, CK Birla Hospital® aims to grow its services into a centre of excellence and a teaching hub for robot-assisted breast surgery, offering knowledge-sharing and training opportunities for surgeons across India.

This development showcases how advanced surgical expertise, supported by institutional commitment, is transforming breast cancer treatment, ensuring effective care while preserving dignity, confidence, and quality of life for women.
