Sarvodaya Hospital Introduces Terbium-161 PSMA Therapy and CAR-T Cell Therapy for Prostate Cancer Treatment
Faridabad: Sarvodaya Hospital, Faridabad, has announced the launch of two advanced cancer therapies, Terbium-161 PSMA therapy for prostate cancer and CAR-T Cell therapy for certain blood cancers, marking new additions to its oncology services.
The hospital states it has become the first Theranostics and Nuclear Medicine center in India to offer Terbium-161 PSMA therapy, a targeted radionuclide therapy designed for patients with advanced metastatic castration-resistant or hormone-refractory prostate cancer.
This therapy uses the radioisotope Terbium-161, which emits beta particles and Auger electrons that target prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-expressing cancer cells, potentially improving treatment precision and reducing damage to surrounding healthy tissues.
According to experts, Terbium-161 may have enhanced cell-killing efficacy compared to currently available radionuclides due to its emission characteristics, especially in micrometastatic disease.
It represents a developing area of precision oncology, where treatments are tailored based on specific molecular and genetic features of a patient's cancer.
Dr Swagat Dash, HOD & Senior Consultant – Nuclear Medicine, Sarvodaya Cancer Institute, Sarvodaya Hospital, Faridabad, said,"The introduction of this groundbreaking therapy in India will bring renewed hope to patients battling with advanced prostate cancer. This marks a significant step in precision oncology, and the team at Sarvodaya remains committed to delivering advanced and cutting-edge cancer care."
In addition to this, CAR-T Cell therapy has also been introduced at the hospital. This form of immunotherapy involves modifying a patient’s own T-cells to recognize and attack cancer cells.
It has shown promising results in blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, particularly in patients who have not responded to conventional therapies.
Dr Dinesh Pendharkar, Director, Sarvodaya Cancer Institute, added,"At Sarvodaya Hospital, we remain committed to treat patients through evidence-based techniques as well as to improve outcomes for the patients. We are honored to pioneer this revolution in India because terbium-161 PSMA therapy represents a novel approach to treat advanced prostate cancer. We are shifting the landscape in terms of what complete cancer care means with CAR-T Cell therapy as well as Theranostics."
Sarvodaya Hospital states that it now offers diagnostic and advanced cancer treatment services under one roof.
