New Delhi: On the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day, Union Ministers highlighted that yoga is not just helpful for physical health but also plays an important role in supporting mental well-being and reducing stress.

Every year, International Yoga Day is observed on June 21, and this year’s theme is “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, emphasizing the link between individual health and the health of our planet. The day was first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 and was quickly accepted by the United Nations, with support from 177 countries around the world.

Leading the celebrations from Visakhapatnam, Prime Minister Modi said yoga offers a path to peace at a time when the world is facing instability and conflict. He also launched a special commemorative postage stamp to honor India’s ancient tradition of yoga and its worldwide impact.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda, while participating in events in New Delhi, said, "Yoga is important not just for our body, but also for our mind. It helps reduce stress, calms our thoughts, and brings balance to our lives." He called yoga a mental discipline that helps unite the body, brain, and spirit, and encouraged everyone to make it a part of their daily routine.

Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health, called yoga an "invaluable gift from Indian culture" and said it guides the world toward a healthy and positive way of living.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi encouraged people to practice yoga every day for better health, peace, and prosperity in society.

The Ministry of Ayush also noted that yoga has become a global solution for both physical and mental challenges. Recent studies by AIIMS, New Delhi, show that yoga can support the treatment of heart conditions and neurological issues and even improve women’s health and emotional well-being.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, at an event in Faridabad, underlined this year’s theme, explaining that yoga supports both human and planetary health and aligns with India’s ancient vision of collective well-being: “Sarve Santu Niramaya” – May all be free from disease.
