Bangladesh : Three more people have died from dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths in 2025 to 215. The latest fatalities were reported in Dhaka South City Corporation and Khulna Division, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same time, 782 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals, increasing the total number of cases this year to 50,689. Currently, 851 people are receiving treatment in hospitals in Dhaka, while 2,473 are being treated in other parts of the country.

Among the new patients, 60.9 percent are men and 39.1 percent are women. In 2024, a total of 575 people died due to dengue. That year saw 101,214 confirmed cases and 100,040 recoveries in Bangladesh, according to DGHS data.

To better manage the situation, DGHS recently issued new guidelines for all public hospitals. Hospitals have been instructed to create dedicated wards for dengue patients and form specialized medical teams.

These teams must include trained doctors, medical officers, and residents working under the supervision of a board made up of specialists in medicine, paediatrics, and other relevant fields. Hospitals are also required to provide NS-1 testing, emergency care, and ensure that enough medicines are available.

Patients should be treated in designated rooms or wards, and ICU support must be prioritized when needed. Doctors and nurses have been given specific responsibilities to handle dengue cases more effectively. The same medical board and staff must also provide care to suspected dengue and Chikungunya patients visiting outpatient departments.

Additionally, hospital authorities have been told to contact city corporations or municipalities to carry out mosquito control and cleanliness drives around hospital areas. A weekly coordination meeting on dengue response must also be held every Saturday, led by the hospital director, superintendent, and civil surgeon.

Dengue is a viral illness caused by the dengue virus, which spreads through the bite of infected mosquitoes. There is no specific cure, but early diagnosis and proper medical care can significantly reduce the risk of severe complications and death.
