Firefighters Remove Iron Washer Lodged in Man’s Private Part for Three Days in Kerela
Kerala: Fire and Rescue personnel are often associated with saving human lives through daring operations, but their role extends beyond that. They also assist in critical medical emergencies when healthcare practitioners require specialized help.
Such an incident occurred at a district hospital in Kanhangad, located in northern Kerala, on the night of March 25, when doctors sought the help of Fire and Rescue personnel to remove an iron washer that had become lodged in the genital area of a 46-year-old man.
The man had arrived at the hospital in a life-threatening condition, experiencing severe swelling in his private parts, which was obstructing urination. According to reports, the iron washer had been stuck for three days before he sought medical attention. Doctors determined that immediate intervention was necessary to prevent further complications.
"It was a challenging, two-hour-long operation. We used a ring cutter, a tool commonly employed to remove rings stuck on fingers, to carefully cut the washer," P V Pavithran, the Fire and Rescue Station Officer of Kanhangad station, told PTI.
Pavithran stated that the rescue team received a call from a doctor at the district hospital at around 10 PM on March 25, requesting assistance for the urgent case. Understanding the gravity of the situation, the Fire and Rescue team immediately rushed to the hospital with the necessary equipment.
"It was a very alarming sight. The iron washer was tightly placed around the private area, making it impossible for him to urinate," he said.
A five-member Fire and Rescue team immediately began efforts to carefully cut the washer without causing harm to the patient, who had been sedated by the doctors to facilitate the procedure. The team worked with precision, ensuring that there was no additional injury or bleeding during the removal process.
When questioned about how the washer had become lodged in his intimate area, the officer said that the man claimed someone had placed it on him while he was in an inebriated state. However, authorities have not verified this claim.
