KIMSHEALTH Launches Advanced Electrophysiology Lab with 3D Mapping

Update: 2024-10-10 10:00 GMT

Thiruvananthapuram: KIMSHEALTH Trivandrum has launched a cutting-edge Electrophysiology Lab featuring advanced 3D Mapping technology, marking a significant milestone in cardiac care in Kerala. Dr. S. Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), inaugurated the lab at a ceremony in Osler Hall at KIMSHEALTH. The event was followed by a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program that gathered cardiology and electrophysiology experts to discuss recent advancements and their impact on patient care.

The new lab houses the 'ENSITE X,' a sophisticated 3D omnipolar mapping system, which is the first of its kind in Kerala and only the third in India. This technology enables precise detection, mapping, and treatment of abnormal heart electrical activity, offering a permanent solution for dangerous rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation, electrical storm, and ventricular tachycardia. These conditions, which are increasingly observed in younger patients, can lead to sudden cardiac death if untreated. Cardiac electrophysiology is a specialized field that focuses on diagnosing and treating these rhythm disturbances through procedures that involve catheters and wire electrodes to measure electrical signals in the heart.

Dr. Ajith Kumar V K, Senior Consultant and Coordinator of the Department of Cardiology, welcomed the guests, while Dr. Anees Thajudeen, Senior Consultant of Electrophysiology and Heart Failure Clinic, provided an in-depth overview of the lab’s capabilities. Varun Khanna, Managing Director of Quality Care India Limited, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the critical role of advanced electrophysiology services in improving healthcare outcomes. The hospital's Chairman and Managing Director, Dr. M I Sahadulla, in his presidential address, expressed pride in KIMSHEALTH’s commitment to pioneering advanced medical technologies for better patient care. Senior Corporate Advisor E.M. Najeeb extended the vote of thanks.

KIMSHEALTH’s Department of Cardiology, known for its comprehensive cardiac care services, covers all aspects of cardiology, including diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. The newly established Electrophysiology unit, led by Dr. Anees Thajudeen, reinforces the hospital's mission to offer state-of-the-art care in a safe and supportive environment, ensuring patients receive top-tier treatment for heart rhythm disorders.
