Update: 2025-03-13 05:00 GMT

Bengaluru: With sleep-related disorders on the rise in India, a new report has revealed that one in two Indians, or around 52%, are using Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based voice assistants to establish their sleep routines. The study, conducted by YouGov ahead of World Sleep Day on March 14, surveyed 1,000 respondents across 10 cities, highlighting the growing role of AI in improving sleep habits.

The findings indicate that more individuals aged 35-45 rely on voice assistants for sleep routines compared to those aged 25-34. Additionally, 53% of respondents reported experiencing sleep disturbances when they deviated from a consistent bedtime routine. However, maintaining a structured sleep schedule led to noticeable improvements for 54% of adults.

Teena Sidana, emphasized the increasing reliance on smart technologies like voice assistants to support bedtime routines. She noted that AI-driven experiences are emerging as practical alternatives to traditional screen-based activities before sleep. From playing meditation tracks and relaxing sounds to setting alarms and controlling smart home devices, AI is reshaping the way people wind down at night.

The report also highlighted that households with couples and children are adopting AI-based voice assistants to create better sleep environments. Around 45% of users engage with smart devices to listen to music, podcasts, meditation playlists, audiobooks, and ambient sounds as part of their bedtime routine. Additionally, 23% use voice assistants to set alarms and reminders, while 22% rely on them for controlling smart home features like bedroom lights, automated curtains, and air conditioners.

Beyond current usage trends, the study found that over 50% of respondents are interested in incorporating wellness activities into their nighttime routine. These activities include meditation, journaling, light exercises like walking, and skincare regimens. Couples, both with and without children, showed a higher inclination (32%) toward integrating meditation and journaling into their bedtime habits.

As AI-powered voice assistants continue to gain popularity, their role in fostering healthier sleep habits and improving overall well-being is becoming increasingly evident.
