RGCIRC Announces Expansion Plans and Philanthropic Growth on 28th Anniversary
New Delhi: Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCIRC) has announced plans to expand its services across the National Capital Region (NCR) to provide more people with access to high-quality cancer treatment. Along with expansion, the institute will continue enhancing its philanthropic efforts.
At the 28th anniversary event, themed "Beyond Excellence," RGCIRC Chairman Rakesh Chopra reflected on the institution’s long-standing commitment to cancer research, patient care, and community service. Highlighting its nearly three-decade legacy, he emphasized the strong value system that sets RGCIRC apart. "Our success at Rohini signals a huge need to serve more. Thus, we are thinking about growth," Chopra said.
The institute is currently exploring new hospital locations across the NCR. "Apart from Rohini and Niti Bagh, we are exploring other vicinities. We’ve engaged a large firm to oversee this expansion. Construction at Niti Bagh is progressing, and we expect it to be completed in two years," Chopra added.
DS Negi, CEO of RGCIRC, highlighted the institute's philanthropic work, noting that "no one seeking cancer treatment is denied care due to lack of funds." Last year alone, Rs 59 crore was spent on philanthropic activities, and donor support continues to rise. Over the past decade, RGCIRC has conducted over 120,000 free screenings, identifying 5-6% of participants in the pre-cancer stage. The number of screenings reached 24,000 in 2023, benefitting vulnerable communities, including those in slum areas.
The event also saw the launch of a new RGCIRC logo, symbolizing the institute's evolution and commitment to innovation. "Our refreshed logo reflects our core values of ethics, empathy, and excellence," Chopra stated.
Dr. Sudhir Kumar Rawal, Medical Director and Chief of GenitoUro-Oncology Services, expressed appreciation to the institute's staff, saying, "We must come together and commit to extending our performance beyond excellence."
The celebration included cultural performances and awards, fostering a sense of community as RGCIRC enters its 29th year, remaining dedicated to advancing cancer care.
