16-Year-Old Girl from India Develops App for Cancer Caregivers

16-year-old Avani Radheshyam from Bengaluru has created an app to support cancer caregivers—those often overlooked in the care journey.
Inspired by Family Struggles
Avani was moved by her parents' experience caring for her grandmother and aunt, both diagnosed with stage 2 cancer.
She noticed while patients get medical attention, caregivers are left to deal with emotional, physical, and mental stress alone.
Birth of OncoCaregiver
To help, she developed OncoCaregiver—an app offering mental health support, expert guidance, and practical caregiving tools.
During her hospital internship, Avani interviewed caregivers and surveyed dozens, revealing anxiety, confusion, and burnout.
All-in-One
The app includes psychologist access, treatment coaching, nutrition plans, community chats, and a verified oncologist directory.
Caregivers Across India
The app offers free access for rural users, has helped 50+ caregivers, built a 1,000+ community, and is being translated into 9 Indian languages.
“Caregivers are the unsung heroes of the cancer fight. This app ensures they’re never left behind,” says Avani.
