Covid-19 Is Back: 257 Active Cases in India, JN.1 Symptoms Explained
India is seeing a fresh rise in Covid-19 cases. As of May 20, there are 257 active infections.
JN.1 Variant Behind Surge
The new cases are driven by the JN.1 Omicron sub-variant and its offshoots like LF.7 and NB.1.8. This comes as similar spikes are being reported in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Thailand.
State-Wise Spike
Kerala leads with 69 cases, followed by Maharashtra (44) and Tamil Nadu (34). Karnataka has 8, Gujarat 6, Delhi 3,, and there is one each in Haryana, Rajasthan, and Sikkim.
2 Deaths in Mumbai
Mumbai reported two deaths. A 14-year-old with kidney failure and a 54-year-old cancer patient. Both had serious health issues.
JN.1 Symptoms
Common symptoms: sore throat, fever, cough, blocked nose, headache, and fatigue. Loss of taste or smell is also reported. Some feel more exhausted than in earlier waves.
Doctors say falling immunity could lead to more infections. People with weak immune systems or chronic illnesses are at higher risk.
Avoid crowds if sick, wear a mask, get tested, and see a doctor early. Stay informed and follow hygiene practices, as the virus is evolving.
