Gujarat Records 451 Active Covid-19 Cases Linked to Omicron Sub-Variants
Ahmedabad: Gujarat is reporting a rise in Covid-19 cases, with a total of 451 active infections across the state as of Tuesday, according to the state health department.
Of these, 20 patients are currently hospitalised and 431 are under home isolation. So far, 43 individuals have recovered and been discharged. The official death toll has reached seven.
Health authorities have attributed the spike in cases to the Omicron sub-variants LF.7.9 and XFG Recombinant, which are currently the dominant strains. Most patients are showing mild symptoms, including low-grade fever, cold, and cough.
Citizens recovering at home have been advised to monitor their health closely and seek immediate medical care in case of shortness of breath, chest pain, or any severe discomfort.
Medical experts say the rise in infections is part of the cyclical nature of Covid-19, which tends to see surges every six to eight months. While urging the public to remain vigilant, they have stated that there is no cause for panic at this stage.
Ahmedabad remains the primary hotspot in this wave, recording 50 new cases in a single day. The city also reported its second consecutive Covid-related death on Monday, with an 18-year-old pregnant woman from Vinzol succumbing during treatment. This followed the death of a 47-year-old woman earlier at L G Hospital.
In response to the uptick, the Gujarat government has activated heightened preventive measures across districts. The health department has instructed officials to increase surveillance and testing, especially in urban centres like Ahmedabad.
Isolation protocols have been reinforced, and hospitals have been directed to keep dedicated Covid beds and oxygen supplies ready. The state has also resumed daily health briefings to track the spread of the virus.
District health officers are carrying out contact tracing and ensuring regular follow-ups for those under home isolation. Awareness campaigns are being relaunched in both urban and rural areas, focusing on mask usage, hygiene practices, and the importance of early medical intervention.
Vaccination records are also being reviewed, and the public is being encouraged to get booster doses, where applicable. Individuals with comorbidities or weakened immunity have been advised to avoid crowded places and wear masks when stepping out.
As the situation continues to develop, Gujarat’s health authorities are focused on containment, preparedness, and public awareness to manage and curb further transmission.
