Not just the body, but the mind also needs rest! Learn the principles of Unani medicine.
New Delhi: In Unani medicine, “Harkat-o-Sukoon Nafsani” – meaning mental activity and mental rest – is considered the foundation of a healthy life. Just as the body gets tired and can fall ill if it works continuously without rest, the mind too loses balance if it is constantly trapped in stress, anxiety, fear, or anger.
According to Unani principles, the body possesses a life force called “Ruh,” which plays a crucial role in maintaining both mental and physical balance. When emotions are balanced, thoughts are positive, and the mind receives adequate rest, the Ruh remains balanced, promoting better health.
In today’s fast-paced life, people often focus on physical fatigue but ignore mental exhaustion. Working late, spending long hours on screens, staying immersed in worry, or constantly thinking about the future – all these increase mental stress.
Unani medicine emphasizes that mental activity is necessary, as thinking, learning, and working are parts of life. However, balance is essential. Excessive mental busyness can cause restlessness, irritability, insomnia, and fatigue, while complete inactivity can increase sadness and lethargy. Therefore, balance is the key to a healthy mind.
Major changes are not required for mental relaxation. Taking a little time for oneself daily, practicing deep breathing, spending time in nature, performing prayers or meditation, and staying with positive people help soothe the mind.
Understanding one’s limits and avoiding unnecessary pressure is also important. Unani principles teach that through moderation, positive thinking, and periodic mental rest, both the mind and body can be kept healthy. (With inputs from IANS)
