Hyderabad: CARE Hospitals, Malakpet recently performed a successful surgery to remove a complex brain tumor from a 25-year-old man from Khammam, who had been experiencing progressively worsening hearing loss and imbalance. Although these symptoms initially seemed minor, they soon became serious.

A 25-year-old man from Khammam recently underwent successful surgery at CARE Hospitals, Malakpet for a complex brain tumor that had been causing progressively worsening hearing loss and balance issues. Initially, the symptoms seemed minor, but over time, they became serious enough to require immediate medical attention.

Upon thorough evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with an Acoustic Schwannoma, a benign tumor situated at the cerebellopontine (CP) angle, pressing against the brainstem. While non-cancerous, such tumors can have significant consequences if left untreated. Potential complications include facial paralysis, permanent hearing loss, and other serious neurological issues, making timely intervention critical.

After a high-resolution MRI confirmed the tumor’s size and location, the neurosurgical team at CARE Hospitals carefully planned a surgical approach to remove it. They opted for a right retromastoid suboccipital procedure, a precise technique aimed at completely excising the tumor while minimizing risk to surrounding brain structures.

The surgery was performed under the leadership of Dr. Bhavani Prasad Ganji, Senior Neurosurgeon, with the support of Dr. M. Lakshmi Prashanth Kumar, HOD of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, along with a skilled team of operating room and ward staff who ensured smooth execution of the procedure.

The surgery was successful, with the entire tumor removed and no new neurological deficits reported. Postoperatively, the patient recovered steadily, regaining his balance and mobility. He was discharged after three days with excellent clinical outcomes and a positive prognosis for continued health.

Dr. Bhavani Prasad Ganji commented on the case, stating, “This example highlights the importance of early intervention. Symptoms such as one-sided hearing loss or imbalance may appear minor but often indicate serious underlying issues. Early diagnosis and treatment allowed us to completely remove the tumor while protecting vital brain functions.”

Echoing this, Mr. Praveen Kumar Edla, Chief Operating Officer of CARE Hospitals, Malakpet, said, “Time is a crucial factor in neurosurgical cases. Patients who seek treatment promptly have a better chance of recovery. This surgery reflects our hospital’s emphasis on accurate diagnosis, advanced surgical techniques, and coordinated teamwork, all aimed at achieving the best possible outcomes for patients.”

The case further establishes CARE Hospitals, Malakpet as a reliable center for advanced neurosurgical care in Hyderabad, dedicated to providing effective treatment and improved quality of life for patients with complex brain conditions.
