Maharashtra: Jupiter Hospital, Thane, has successfully removed a massive 2.5kg liver tumour from a 58-year-old male patient without requiring a blood transfusion. The complex surgery was performed by the hospital’s Liver Transplant and Hepatobiliary (HPB) Surgery team, reflecting its advanced surgical expertise and patient-focused approach.

The patient, previously evaluated elsewhere, chose Jupiter Hospital, Thane, for treatment due to proximity and family support. Diagnostic scans revealed a large tumour occupying the entire right lobe and extending into the left lobe of the liver.

Following detailed imaging, including CT angiography with volumetric liver analysis, and comprehensive medical fitness evaluations, the team proceeded with a single-stage tumour resection.

The surgery was led by Dr. Anand Ramamurthy, Director of Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery, with support from Dr. Gaurav Patel and Dr. Ankush Golhar, both Senior Consultants in Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery at Jupiter Hospital, Thane.

“Despite the tumour’s size and complexity, meticulous planning enabled us to complete the surgery without a blood transfusion. The patient is recovering well in the ICU,” said Dr. Anand Ramamurthy.

The patient also benefitted from the Jupiter Cancer Institute’s subsidised treatment programme, which reduced the total cost of the procedure—typically ₹7 lakhs—by nearly 70%.

“This case highlights our ability to deliver cutting-edge care while staying patient-inclusive,” said Dr. Gaurav Patel.

“At Jupiter Hospital, Thane, we are committed to ensuring no one is denied life-saving treatment due to financial constraints,” added Dr. Ankush Golhar.

This successful case further affirms Jupiter Hospital, Thane’s reputation as a centre of excellence for Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery, combining surgical precision with compassionate care.
