New Delhi: The spirit of awareness and unity took centre stage as Rotary International (District 3011), in association with RGCIRC (Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre), Niti Bagh, successfully hosted “Gulabi Udaan a Cyclothon in Pink.”

The women-centric event aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer and highlight the importance of early detection.

Around 250 enthusiastic cyclists turned the streets of South Delhi into a sea of pink, riding together to inspire women to prioritize regular self-examination and timely medical screening.

Femina Miss India World Nandini Gupta, the Chief Guest, motivated participants to become ambassadors of awareness and spread the message of prevention.

The 13.5-kilometer route began at Father Agnel School, passing through major landmarks like August Kranti Marg, Moolchand Crossing, Joseph Tito Marg, and Hauz Khas, before returning to the starting point.

The event was flagged off by Rotary District Governor Dr Ravinder Gugnani and Dr Gauri Kapoor, Medical Director, RGCIRC, Niti Bagh.

Dr Gauri Kapoor emphasized, “Breast cancer awareness and early detection save lives. Events like Gulabi Udaan not only promote fitness but also remind women to take proactive steps for their health.”

Dr Ravinder Gugnani added, “Cycling is a simple way to stay fit and reduce the risk of breast cancer. Awareness and action must go together, and this initiative empowers women to take charge of their health.”

At a pit stop at Rajkumari Amrit Kaur College of Nursing, the message reached over 200 nursing students, reinforcing that early detection is key to saving lives.

With breast cancer being the most common cancer among Indian women, the event highlighted prevention strategies like staying active, avoiding tobacco and alcohol, eating plant-based foods, and maintaining a healthy weight.

The success of Gulabi Udaan reflected Rotary’s enduring commitment to service and RGCIRC’s dedication to compassionate cancer care reminding everyone that awareness is the first step to a cure.
