Gurugram : Paras Health Gurugram has achieved a rare medical milestone by successfully treating a patient diagnosed with synchronous stage 4 dual malignancy, involving two different advanced cancers detected simultaneously.

The case was led by Dr Devanshee Shah, Medical Oncologist, Paras Health Gurugram, along with the hospital’s multi-disciplinary tumour board, using a customized treatment plan designed with curative intent.

The 62-year-old patient, Mrs Choudhary, presented with breast pain and a growing lump. Detailed investigations revealed stage 4 hormone-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer affecting both breasts, with limited spread to regional lymph nodes and bone.

A PET CT scan also detected a suspicious lung tumour. Further biopsy revealed that the lung lesion was not a metastasis but an independent neuroendocrine tumour, confirming two separate cancers.

Dr Devanshee Shah explained, “In most cases, a lung tumour alongside breast cancer is assumed to be a spread of the same disease. In this case, advanced diagnostics helped us identify it as a separate tumour, allowing us to design a treatment plan with curative intent.”

The patient was treated with neoadjuvant hormone therapy, targeted therapy, and bone-protective agents for her breast cancer, and a separate targeted therapy for the lung tumour.

After three months, her PET scan showed complete regression of cancer in the left breast and bones, and over 50% reduction in right breast and axillary tumours. The lung tumour remained stable, enabling successful surgeries for both cancers.

Dr Shah added, “At Paras Health, we believe stage 4 does not always mean the end. With advanced therapies, surgical precision, and teamwork, selected patients can achieve long-term remission or even cure. This case highlights how accurate diagnosis and multi-disciplinary care can transform outcomes.”

Expressing gratitude, Mrs Choudhary said, “I once believed surviving stage 4 cancer was impossible. Paras Health diagnosed my condition precisely, guided me with clarity, and supported me throughout. Their compassion and expertise gave me confidence in my recovery.”

This successful case demonstrates Paras Health Gurugram’s expertise in managing rare and advanced cancers, showing that with proper diagnosis and coordinated care, even stage 4 dual malignancies can be treated successfully.

As part of the Paras Health network, the hospital continues to lead in advanced oncology, combining cutting-edge diagnostics, specialized teams, and patient-centric care to deliver world-class cancer treatment in India.
