Saree Run by Apollo Hospitals Bengaluru Celebrates Breast Cancer Survivors

Bengaluru: Apollo Hospitals, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru, organized the third edition of the Saree Run, an inspiring community event dedicated to celebrating breast cancer survivors and spreading awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention.
This year’s event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 1,000 individuals, including 100 breast cancer winners , marking the culmination of a 100-day fitness challenge during which participants collectively achieved an impressive milestone of 5 crore steps.
The achievement symbolized their shared journey of resilience, recovery, and hope, while reinforcing the importance of fitness and proactive health awareness.
Participants completed a 3.5 km run in traditional sarees, symbolizing dignity, identity, and strength. The event was flagged off by Ms. Sowmya Reddy, Former MLA of Jayanagar and President of the Karnataka State Mahila Congress, who praised Apollo Hospitals for promoting women’s health and initiating platforms that encourage open dialogue around breast cancer.
Ms. Reddy said, “The Saree Run is not just an event but a movement of strength and solidarity. It reminds us that awareness, timely screening, and community support can change lives. Watching women run in sarees with such pride is a powerful symbol of empowerment.”
Dr Jayanti Thumsi, Senior Lead Surgeon, Breast Oncology at Apollo Hospitals, who has treated many of the participants, remarked, “Every step taken by these women represents courage and triumph over fear. Their 5 crore steps stand for life, strength, and confidence after cancer.”
Mr Akshay Oleti, CEO – Karnataka Region, Apollo Hospitals, added, “Healing extends beyond treatment. The Saree Run reflects Apollo’s belief in empowerment through awareness and early diagnosis, inspiring women to take charge of their health.”
Dr (Prof.) Vijay Agarwal, Professor and Lead Consultant, Medical Oncology, emphasized that early detection makes breast cancer highly treatable, while Prof. Dr Vishwanath S, Senior Consultant in Medical Oncology, highlighted how survivor-led initiatives** encourage timely medical action and inspire others.
Now in its third year, the Saree Run has become a key part of Apollo Hospitals’ breast cancer advocacy initiatives in Karnataka, promoting awareness, solidarity, and community participation in the fight against breast cancer.
