Ahmedabad: A recent study of Covid-19 trends reveals that active cases are steadily increasing across India, with the nationwide count surpassing 6,815. Gujarat remains a key state under observation, having reported 203 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours as of Wednesday. This brings the total number of active cases in the state to 1,281.

According to the latest data, only 23 of these active patients are currently undergoing treatment in hospitals. The vast majority — 1,258 individuals — are being managed through outpatient-based care (OPD), reflecting the generally mild nature of recent cases. Encouragingly, 149 patients have recovered and were discharged during the same 24-hour period.

Despite the overall rise in infections, Gujarat health officials have noted a slight decline in the daily case count over the past three days, which they view as a positive development. The state’s trend over the past 10 days has shown fluctuating numbers, though with a gradual downward movement in new cases. For instance, Gujarat reported 223 new cases on June 10, down from 235 on June 9. Prior to that, 185 new infections were recorded on June 8, followed by 183 on June 7 and 170 on June 6.

Earlier this month, on June 1, the state had reported only 55 cases, indicating a sharp rise in the active caseload within a short span. From 320 active cases at the beginning of June, the number has climbed to 1,281 by June 11 — a clear sign that the virus continues to circulate in the community.

With the annual Rath Yatra approaching, health authorities have issued advisories targeting vulnerable groups such as senior citizens and individuals with pre-existing medical conditions. These individuals are strongly urged to avoid crowded areas and to participate in the festivities virtually.

Health Minister Rushikesh Patel has appealed to citizens to take sensible precautions and follow Covid-19 safety guidelines. The state government is actively preparing by enhancing hospital readiness, coordinating with district health departments, and increasing testing and monitoring efforts across both urban and rural regions.

Officials have emphasized that outpatient-based care remains the preferred strategy for most cases, reducing the strain on hospital resources. Public health advisories are being widely circulated, especially for the elderly and those with compromised immune systems, as part of the broader effort to curb the spread of the virus.
