Ahmedabad: Sterling Hospitals has given a new life to a 44 year old patient by performing one of the most complex liver surgeries. The patient had come to Ahmedabad from Jaisalmer and had a 3.1 kg tumour in his liver, which was causing unbearable abdominal pain.

Not only that, but because of this tumour, the patient’s kidney had also shifted. In such a critical condition, Sterling Hospitals’ Dr. Hitesh Chavda and the medical team performed his surgery.

This was one of the rare and critical surgeries for the patient, which lasted for 10 hours. However, with Sterling’s medical treatment, the surgery was successfully completed and the patient received a new lease of life.

Dr. Hitesh Chavda of Sterling Hospitals Ahmedabad further stated regarding this surgery that our team consists of specialised doctors and medical staff and with their support, we were able to successfully perform surgery in such a rare condition and give the patient a new life.

The patient had a non-cancerous benign hemangioma, which we can call a blood tumour. It had spread in the right part of his liver. The patient was a livestock farmer by profession, and considering his body structure, such a tumour cannot be detected easily. Initially, he came to us only with complaints of abdominal pain.

After conducting scans, we found that he had a large tumour in the right part of his liver.

Dr. Hitesh Chavda said that the biggest challenge for us was how to plan this surgery. The patient had come in such a condition that even the slightest complication during surgery could put his life at risk.

But Sterling Hospitals has always had one approach - Patient First. We planned the surgery so that the patient could return to a normal life again, and with the medical team, we immediately began his treatment.

After all the preparations, we started the surgery, which continued non-stop for 10 hours. The patient regained consciousness within minutes after the 10-hour surgery. He was kept in the ICU for observation, and his condition also improved significantly. He appeared completely stable.

How does a tumour form in the liver? What should be done to prevent it?

Dr. Hitesh Chavda of Sterling Hospitals said that such a tumour can be congenital. But it was not detected early because such tumours take a long time to grow. Initially, mild abdominal pain occurs, which increases over time. Most patients ignore abdominal pain and continue with their routine life.

But if this discomfort keeps recurring over longer intervals, one should get a scan done. Because if a tumour in the liver grows this large, it can become life-threatening for the patient. Many times, the tumour grows so big that it causes internal haemorrhage.

In the case of this patient, his kidney had also shifted due to the tumour in the liver. Therefore, to prevent such conditions from worsening, one should undergo medical check-ups from time to time.
