Safe Surgery Possible for High-Risk Women with Complex Conditions - Dr Mitul Gupta

Jaipur: Demonstrating how meticulous planning and personalised clinical decision-making can significantly reduce surgical risk, doctors at Cocoon Hospital, Jaipur, successfully performed a complex laparoscopic procedure on a woman with multiple underlying medical conditions.
Despite the patient’s high-risk profile, the surgery was completed safely, with a smooth recovery and no post-operative complications, underscoring the importance of tailored care in managing medically challenging cases.
A female patient presented with complaints of irregular menstrual cycles and persistent weakness. After a very detailed medical evaluation, she was diagnosed with Abnormal Uterine Bleeding caused by adenomyosis – a condition in which uterine tissues grow into the muscular wall of the uterus, ultimately leading to heavy bleeding and long-term discomfort.
Considering these factors, the patient was admitted under the care of Dr Mitul Gupta, Senior Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Cocoon Hospital, Jaipur. After a thorough medical assessment and careful planning, the medical team decided to proceed with a total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy, using a minimally invasive surgical approach and very close monitoring throughout the medical process.
Speaking about the case, Dr Mitul Gupta said, “When patients have multiple medical conditions, decisions regarding the treatment should be made very carefully. The focus is not on the surgery itself but on managing the associated risk, such as blood-thinning medication, clotting tendencies, and overall recovery.
In this type of cases detailed medical planning and constant monitoring helped to ensure the safety of patients at every stage.”
The case was also medically challenging due to the patient’s complex health history. She had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and had previously undergone treatment related to breast cancer in 2018.
She had also undergone a laparoscopic appendectomy in the past and had a history of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), a potentially serious condition which involves blood clots in the veins. Due to this, the patient had been on long-term blood-thinning medication, which also increases the risk of excessive bleeding during the time of surgery.
The laparoscopic procedure helped to minimise the surgical stress, reduce the loss of blood and support faster recovery of patients. The patient responded very well to treatment and recovered smoothly without any type of postoperative complications.
The case also highlights the significance of individualised care for patients with complex medical backgrounds. Certain conditions like adenomyosis can significantly affect the quality of life, but with timely diagnosis and ca arefully planned approach, even patients who are at high risk can be treated very safely.
