The rising number of lifestyle diseases in India highlights that medical treatment is not enough to handle the growing burden of health problems. Doctors say nutrition stands as an evidence-based practice which healthcare providers should inculcate for preventing diseases and delivering comprehensive patient care.

In this context, the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida together with PAN India (Physicians Association for Nutrition) recently hosted a special CME to highlight the importance of evidence-based nutrition in contemporary medical practice.

The event brought together senior clinicians, along with medical educators and researchers and young doctors who participated in multiple educational activities including presentations and practical training.

Dr. Rambha Pathak, Professor & Head of Community Medicine and Dean at GIMS, delivered the welcome address. Dr Pathak stressed that nutrition should become the central foundation of healthcare in India.

“The majority of present-day diseases we see today can be prevented or managed better if nutrition becomes a routine part of patient counselling." Events like this help doctors make informed, scientific decisions that truly benefit patients, according to Dr. Pathak.

Dr. Suneela Garg, Dir Prof HAG Community Medicine, Ex-Head FMS (MAMC), said such events are very important for bridging the gap between medical education and patient care. Dr. Garg emphasised that evidence-based nutrition needs to become a fundamental element of standard clinical practice to enhance patients' future health results.

Dr. (Brig) Rakesh Kumar Gupta from the Government Institute of Medical Sciences in Greater Noida delivered a special address which stated that nutrition during the first 1000 days after birth creates a foundation which determines our future health status. We need to give parents and caregivers useful dietary advice based on scientific evidence.

Dr. Hemalatha, Head of Medical & Clinical Research at Yashoda Hospitals and PAN India Advisor gave a keynote presentation, highlighting practical protocols for incorporating plant-forward, scientific nutritional strategies in clinical settings.

Dr. Anjali Nakra founder of "Path to Health Clinic" delivered the session about Lifestyle Medicine and Evidence-Based Nutrition. She demonstrated that regular small modifications to our diet will produce major benefits for our future wellness.

Dr. Anjali explained that nutrition serves as a strong therapeutic resource which medical professionals fail to utilise sufficiently during their daily practice. When doctors learn how to guide patients with simple, realistic dietary advice, we see real improvements in overall well-being, Dr. Anjali said.

The event attracted numerous clinicians from Delhi-NCR who showed strong interest in nutrition-based healthcare methods, according to Dr. Anjali.
