Mumbai’s Shifting Weather Poses Health Risks, Experts Advise

Mumbai: Due to recent climate changes along the south and west coasts, Maharashtra has witnessed sudden and unpredictable fluctuations in temperature. After a brief spell of noticeable chill, the cold wave seems to have receded, leaving citizens confused and the weather highly unstable.
In Mumbai, this abrupt change has led to a rise in cases of cold, cough and fever, prompting doctors to urge people to take extra precautions. Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, has appealed to citizens to remain vigilant, especially those with pre-existing health conditions. The hospital has noted an increase in patients presenting with respiratory infections and viral symptoms over the last few days.
Commenting on the situation, Dr. Jinendra Jain, Consultant Internal Medicine and Diabetologist at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, said, “Sudden temperature changes put additional stress on the body’s immune system. Patients with diabetes and high blood pressure are particularly vulnerable, as even minor infections can disturb sugar levels, blood pressure control and overall health status. It is crucial for such patients to monitor their health closely during this period.”
Dr. Jain further advised that people should avoid crowded places if they have symptoms like cold, cough, sore throat, fever, body ache or fatigue. He added that if any of these symptoms appear, it is better to rest, stay hydrated, use a mask when stepping out, and consult a doctor if complaints persist. According to him, self-medication should be avoided, especially in patients who are already on regular medicines for chronic illnesses.
Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, has also emphasized the importance of regular monitoring for diabetes and blood pressure patients in Mumbai. Uncontrolled sugar or blood pressure can increase the risk of complications when the body is fighting infections.
The hospital has urged citizens to continue their regular medications without interruption, check blood sugar and blood pressure at recommended intervals, maintain a healthy diet and adequate fluid intake, and seek timely medical advice if symptoms worsen.
Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, remains committed to providing comprehensive care and timely guidance to the people of Mumbai during this phase of unpredictable weather and rising seasonal illnesses.
