President Murmu: Specialty Health Centres in Bihar to Enhance Public Welfare and Economic Growth

Patna: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday emphasized the need for establishing specialty medical centres across Bihar to ensure accessible healthcare for residents while also strengthening the state’s economy.
Speaking at the centenary celebration of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), she highlighted how patients often travel to cities outside Bihar for medical treatment, leading to delays and challenges related to food, accommodation, and employment. She noted that this dependence also adds pressure on major medical hubs in cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Indore.
To address these issues, she advocated for the decentralization of quality medical institutions across the country, underscoring the importance of Bihar developing its own specialty healthcare facilities.
"This would not only provide high-quality treatment to the people of Bihar but also contribute significantly to the state's economic growth," she said. She urged PMCH and its alumni to play an active role in this initiative, leveraging their expertise and experience.
President Murmu acknowledged the rich legacy of PMCH, calling it an invaluable part of Bihar’s heritage. She praised its history of excellence, stating that it was once among the best hospitals in Asia. She also lauded the achievements of PMCH alumni, who have earned national and international recognition through their dedication, talent, and service.
Emphasizing the growing role of technology in medicine, she highlighted advancements such as Artificial Intelligence and robotics, which are transforming medical procedures by making them more precise and efficient. She urged medical professionals at PMCH to embrace these innovations to enhance patient care and expand their expertise.
Additionally, she stressed the multidimensional role of doctors as researchers, educators, and counselors, contributing not only to healthcare but also to nation-building. She encouraged them to actively raise awareness about the significance of blood and organ donation.
Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar were also present at the event.
The President’s address reinforced the need for Bihar to build its own medical hubs, ensuring that residents receive advanced healthcare without the burden of traveling outside the state, while simultaneously fostering economic progress.
