Jaipur: COVID-19 cases are gradually rising in Rajasthan, with seven new infections reported in the last 24 hours across two cities. According to official sources, two new cases were detected at AIIMS Jodhpur, while five were reported in Jaipur from multiple hospitals.

At AIIMS Jodhpur, the newly infected patients include a 16-year-old girl from Balotra and a 31-year-old woman from Bikaner. In Jaipur, the five new cases were confirmed from different healthcare facilities — two from Sawai Man Singh Hospital (SMS), one from Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), one from Jaipuria Hospital, and one from a private hospital.

With the latest cases, the total number of COVID-19 infections in the state this year has risen to 39, with one reported death linked to the virus.

In view of the rising case load, the Rajasthan Health Department has initiated urgent preventive measures to boost hospital readiness across the state. Health Department Director Dr Ravi Prakash Sharma has issued directives to all divisional-level joint directors to conduct mock drills focused on oxygen availability and preparedness in district hospitals.

"The stock of oxygen available in the hospital, the number of oxygen concentrators and their condition, the availability of liquid medical oxygen tanks and their condition should be reported by June 2 by all district hospitals," Dr Sharma said.

"These measures are aimed at strengthening the state's readiness in the event of a further spike in COVID-19 cases," he added.

The directive includes checking the stock and condition of oxygen cylinders and concentrators, verifying the functionality of liquid medical oxygen (LMO) tanks, and submitting a comprehensive report on the oxygen infrastructure status by June 2.

According to the Health Department’s latest data, Jaipur has reported the highest number of cases this year with 17 infections, followed by Jodhpur (6), Udaipur (4), Didwana (3), Ajmer (2), and Bikaner (2). Single cases have been reported from Balotra, Dausa, Phalodi, and Sawai Madhopur, along with one more case from an unspecified location in the state.

Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and urge the public to remain cautious, especially in light of the unpredictable resurgence pattern of the virus.
