WSO–NABH Recognition Makes Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai’s Sole Advanced Stroke Centre

The certification recognises Gleneagles Hospital’s excellence in emergency stroke response, advanced infrastructure, expert-led care, and consistent quality outcomes, making it the only hospital in Mumbai to achieve this World Stroke Organisation NABH recognition
Gleneagles Hospital, Parel, Mumbai, has achieved a major milestone in neurological care by becoming the only hospital in Mumbai to receive the World Stroke Organisation (WSO) and the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH)– Advanced Stroke Centre Certification. The recognition follows a rigorous and detailed inspection process that evaluated the hospital’s infrastructure, clinical protocols, emergency response systems, and patient outcomes in stroke care.
This achievement reflects Gleneagles Hospital’s preparedness to deliver timely, evidence-based, and life-saving treatment for stroke patients at a time when stroke incidence is rising rapidly across India. The stroke Programme is led by a highly experienced multidisciplinary team involving three senior specialists- Dr Shirish Hastak, Dr Nitin Dange, Dr Pankaj Agarwal, interventional experts, and critical care physicians, who work in close coordination from diagnosis to rehabilitation. Door-to-Needle Time (DTNT) and Door-to-Groin Time (DTGT), which are crucial for stroke recovery outcomes.
Gleneagles Hospital has a dedicated Neuro Critical Care Unit, designed exclusively for patients with critical neurological conditions, including acute stroke. The hospital follows strict international benchmarks for rapid thrombolysis, ensuring treatment is delivered within the critical “golden window” that is 4.5 hours to minimise brain damage and improve recovery outcomes.
It is Mumbai’s first hospital certified under the NABH Certification Program for Advanced Stroke Centre, setting a new benchmark in comprehensive stroke care. This certification recognises the excellence of our highly skilled Neurology and Neurosurgery team, supported by advanced technology, standardised stroke protocols, and 24×7 multidisciplinary care, ensuring rapid, precise, and life-saving treatment with a focus on better outcomes and faster recovery.
In addition to the NABH certification, Gleneagles Hospital has been recognised by the World Stroke Organisation (WSO)/Angels Awards Committee, an international body that honours hospitals demonstrating excellence in stroke data reporting, treatment quality, and patient outcomes.
Gleneagles Hospital has received the WSO NABH Advanced Stroke Centre Certificate, the highest level of recognition, for maintaining exceptional stroke care standards across multiple consecutive evaluation cycles.
Dr Bipin Chevale, CEO - Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai, said, “Receiving both NABH and WSO recognition is a validation of our systems, teamwork, and clinical discipline. We continuously analyse our stroke data to identify gaps and improve response times. This approach helps us deliver consistent outcomes, even in complex and high-risk stroke cases.
This certification is a proud moment for all of us. Being the only hospital in Mumbai to receive WSO - NABH Advanced Stroke Centre recognition highlights our commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety, and global quality standards. As stroke cases continue to rise, we remain focused on strengthening emergency response systems and delivering timely, coordinated, and compassionate care.”
