Uzbek Teen Regains Posture and Mobility after Complex Spine Revision Surgery

Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, has successfully performed a highly complex spine surgery on a 16-year-old boy from Uzbekistan who had earlier undergone two unsuccessful attempts of spine deformity correction operations in his home country. The advanced corrective procedure helped him stand and walk straight, reduce constant pain, and return to a routine life, walking comfortably with renewed confidence.
Behruzbek Tuychiev had been living with a bend in his back for more than 5 years. Despite earlier surgeries to fix the problem and a second revision procedure that ended with partial implant removal, the bend of his spine kept increasing and became more severe over time. He developed a visible hump on his upper back, struggled to stay balanced while standing, found it difficult to sit or walk for long, and suffered from pain that disturbed his sleep.
Seeking expert care, the family consulted Dr. Jitesh Manghwani, Principal Consultant & Unit Head – Orthopaedic Spine Surgery at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh. Doctors found that his spine was very stiff and twisted (kyphoscoliosis), which had led to the hump and posture imbalance. He was advised to undergo a carefully planned revision deformity correction surgery of the spine to straighten it again. This time, the challenge was greater because his spine had already been operated on twice, making it very stiff and surrounded by scar tissue. Specialised screws and rods were used to straighten and stabilise the spine during the surgery, with continuous neuro monitoring to ensure safety.
Commenting on the case, Dr. Jitesh Manghwani, said, “Revision spine deformity correction after previous surgeries is among the most challenging procedures in spine surgery. The spine becomes stiff, scar tissue surrounds critical areas, and the risk to the spinal cord increases significantly. In this case, with meticulous planning, precision techniques, and continuous neuro monitoring, we were able to safely straighten the spine. The patient was able to stand straighter and start walking from the very next day, regaining comfort, balance, and confidence.”
After the surgery, X-rays showed that his shoulders and pelvis were back in proper alignment, and he began walking without any support the very next day. Physiotherapy, breathing exercises, and posture training were started early, and he was discharged in stable condition with clear guidance on posture care and follow-up.
With such complex spine corrections, Max Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, continues to advance its capabilities in managing challenging spinal deformity cases, enabling patients to move toward a more comfortable and active life.
