Overview

In this video, Dr Ramesh Menon, Associate Director, Personal Genomics & Genomic Medicine at MedGenome, delves into Young Onset Parkinson's disease — a form of Parkinson’s that occurs before the age of 50 and often has a stronger genetic basis than later-onset types.

He explains that while only about 25% of Parkinson’s cases have identifiable genetic causes, recent breakthroughs, including research by MedGenome Labs in India, have uncovered new genetic associations and symptom variations.

Dr Menon highlights the development of a simple, non-invasive saliva-based genetic test that can help assess individual risk — especially valuable for those with a family history of Parkinson’s. This affordable innovation allows for early awareness, informed decision-making, and possible risk reduction through proactive steps.

Watch now to understand how genetics is shaping the future of Parkinson’s care.
