In the video, speaking to the team of Medical Dialogues, Dr Prachee Sathe, Director of ICU and Critical Care at Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune gave important insights into Guillain-Barré Syndrome. In recent years, there has been a notable surge in cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare but serious autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the peripheral nervous system.

Very recently, Pune recorded over 110 cases of GBS. This condition can develop rapidly, often leading to severe symptoms, including muscle weakness and even paralysis.

She discussed about how GBS is diagnosed, its primary symptoms, and how they progress over time. She also spoke about the available treatment options for those diagnosed with GBS, as well as provided insights on when to seek medical attention.

Speakers

Dr Bhumika Maikhuri is a Consultant Orthodontist at Sanjeevan Hospital, Delhi. She is also working as a Correspondent and a Medical Writer at Medical Dialogues. She completed her BDS from Dr D Y patil dental college and MDS from Kalinga institute of dental sciences. Apart from dentistry, she has a strong research and scientific writing acumen. Dr Prachee Sathe (MBBS, MD (General Medicine)) is the Director of ICU and Critical Care Medicine at Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune, having over 33 years of experience in the field of Critical Care Medicine and multidisciplinary ICUs. After earning her M.D. in General Medicine, she trained in Critical Care Medicine in the U.K. on a Royal College of Physicians scholarship. Returning to India, she established Pune’s first multi-disciplinary ICU, which has expanded to 125 beds and treats thousands of critically ill patients annually. As a founding member of the Intensive Care Society of India, Dr. Sathe contributes to research, education, and public health advocacy, enhancing critical care standards and promoting community health awareness.
