4th of February marks world cancer day. As we continue to make strides in oncology, treatments have become more personalized, less invasive, and increasingly effective.

This discussion explored the wide range of current cancer treatments, from traditional therapies like chemotherapy to the cutting-edge immunotherapy, targeted therapies, and personalized medicine.

The discussion also involved future of cancer care, including the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and gene therapy in revolutionizing diagnosis and treatment.

In the video, speaking to the team of Medical Dialogues, Dr. Shishir Shetty, Senior Consultant-Surgical Oncology, Fortis Hiranandani explained how the breakthroughs in cancer treatment are improving outcomes and paving the way for more tailored treatments that take the unique genetic makeup of each patient into account.

Dr. Shishir Shetty (MBBS, MS, MCh (Surgical Oncology), Fellowship in Robotic Surgery) is a Senior Consultant Surgical Oncologist at Fortis Hiranandani Hospital Vashi, bringing 28 years of expertise to the field. As the first qualified surgical oncologist from Tata Memorial Hospital, Dr. Shetty holds MBBS, MS, and MCh qualifications and a Fellowship in Robotic Surgery from Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, USA. Renowned as a TEDx speaker and a Guinness Book of Records holder, he is also a prolific author with numerous international publications. His areas of expertise encompass surgical oncology, robotic thoracic and gastrointestinal surgery, among others. Serving as the Vice President of the Mumbai Surgical Society in 2023 and President-Elect for 2024, Dr. Shishir Shetty's patient-centered approach has earned him accolades such as the Abdul Kalam Excellence Award and recognition for charitable work. With over 10,000 surgeries to his credit, Dr Shishir Shetty stands as a distinguished figure, contributing significantly to the medical field.
