Mumbai: In observance of World Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital organised the Spirit of Pink Walkathon, a large-scale community event to promote awareness about early detection and regular screening for breast cancer.

The initiative brought together more than 350 women, including breast cancer survivors, caregivers, and health advocates, who wore pink turbans representing strength, solidarity, and hope.

Ms Usha Soman, renowned fitness icon and mother of model and athlete Milind Soman, graced the event as the chief guest. She flagged off and joined the five-kilometre walk that covered key areas of Juhu and Vile Parle (East), inspiring participants to prioritise wellness and regular health screenings.

The event began at 6:30 a.m. with an energetic warm-up session, followed by motivational addresses from cancer specialists and heartfelt testimonials from survivors and caregivers. These personal stories emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, timely medical care, and the role of community support in fighting breast cancer.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr Garvit Chitkara, Associate Director of Breast Oncology at Nanavati Max Hospital, said, “Events like this turn awareness into action. Most breast cancers are treatable if detected early, often through breast-conserving methods. We urge women to undergo regular screenings and consult doctors without delay. Early detection saves lives.”

As part of its broader awareness campaign, Nanavati Max Hospital also illuminated its building and the Asiatic Society of Mumbai Town Hall in pink, symbolising hope and unity in the fight against breast cancer.

The walkathon concluded with participants taking a collective pledge to continue spreading awareness, supporting patients undergoing treatment, and advocating for regular check-ups.

The event underscored Nanavati Max’s ongoing commitment to compassionate, patient-centric care and impactful community outreach aimed at improving women’s health outcomes.
