After Amla and Moringa, Ayush Ministry Promotes Shatavari for Health Benefits

New Delhi: After successfully promoting medicinal plants like amla, moringa, giloe, and ashwagandha, the Ministry of Ayush has launched a new campaign to raise awareness about the health benefits of the Shatavari plant.
The initiative, titled “Shatavari – For Better Health”, was officially launched on Thursday by Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush. As per IANS, Jadhav highlighted the importance of Shatavari in achieving the Panch Pran goal outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day address on August 15, 2022.
“The Prime Minister envisions making India a developed nation by 2047. As part of this mission, Shatavari has been identified as a key resource for enhancing women’s health, aligning with the broader goal of holistic well-being,” Jadhav said.
According to IANS, Jadhav also praised the progress made by the Ministry of Ayush over the past decade and commended the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) for launching this initiative. He acknowledged previous successful campaigns that have helped spread awareness about medicinal plants across India.
Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, elaborated on the activities and achievements of the NMPB in promoting medicinal plants. He highlighted the Central Sector Scheme for the Conservation, Development, and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants, aimed at ensuring the preservation and cultivation of important medicinal species, including Shatavari.
Dr. Mahesh Kumar Dadhich, CEO of NMPB, emphasized the medicinal importance of Shatavari, particularly for women’s health, and discussed its agro-economic potential. According to IANS, financial assistance of ₹18.9 lakh will be provided to eligible organizations to support the campaign, fostering greater awareness and wider public adoption of Shatavari for health benefits.
Dr. Dadhich further emphasized that the promotion of Shatavari aligns with the government’s broader strategy to integrate traditional medicine into mainstream healthcare. As per IANS, he noted that increased awareness and cultivation of medicinal plants like Shatavari could boost the rural economy by providing farmers with sustainable income opportunities. The campaign also aims to encourage scientific research on Shatavari’s therapeutic properties, ensuring its wider acceptance in both Ayurvedic and modern medical practices.
